National Handwriting Day falls was chosen to be tomorrow since it is John Hancock’s birthday. He supposably rather helpfully wrote his signature so large on the Declaration of Independence so King George could read it without his glasses. In honor of his swagger, there are countless promotions and contests. I’ve come across two that I’m sharing here.
First, there’s a Social Media Challenge through 1/23 from the Campaign for Cursive. Here’s how to be a part of it:
And, one of my favorite stationers, Chandra Greer, is hosting the first annual GREERChicago Write Off, complete with fabulous prizes. The contest will take place on Instagram and here’s how it works:
First, write this quote from Isaac Asimov in black ink on white paper: “Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers.” Choose from three categories: cursive, printed or freestyle (doesn’t fit into either category).
Then, snap a photo of your handwritten quote and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #greerchicagowriteoff and either #cursive #print or #freestyle to indicate which category you’re entering. Be sure to mention @greerchicago!
Contestants can only enter one category. The contest will close at midnight, February 1. Each category winner will win a $100 gift certificate to Greer to be used in-store or online and a Kaweco pen. Get all the details on GREERChicago’s Instagram page.
To maintain as much objectivity as possible, the contest will be judged by a panel of non-Greer experts. Did I mention I’m one of them? I can’t wait to see all the entries. Winners will be announced February 9!
