Longtime Paper Nerd readers know that I have a special spot in my heart dedicated to British stationery design. Maybe it’s because I’ve never been able to get too excited about the Royals, but it’s more likely to be because every paper peep I meet from there is just so darn talented!
Witness Mister Peebles, for example. Its creator Helen, who you see above, illustrates her cards and other paper goods from her studio in London. “As a huge stationery fan myself, it’s a dream job,” she told me. “I paint with watercolours and love to make work that makes people smile, filled with animals and a sense of humor.”
Helen started Mister Peebles about 10 years ago with a handful of drawings on a market stall in East London. “The work is inspired by a love of animals and silly wordplay,” she told me. “I love to see people smile and laugh when they see the drawings.”
Every last card, giftwrap sheet, journal and art print comes to life in watercolour before being printed onto high quality paper stock and packed to ship off into the world tucked inside eco-friendly packaging.
So today the market stall gig has grown into a thriving independent studio selling online and wholesaling to lots of lovely shops across the UK and the world. See Helen’s menagerie come to life in her lively IG feed, and then shop build your personal Mister Peebles menagerie here.
