Oh My Darlin’!

We’re just going into production with the winter issue of Stationery Trends, and I realized as I was reviewing copy that with this issue, I’m pretty much retracing my footsteps through NY NOW and Shoppe Object. I can’t wait for all the exquisite discoveries filling that issue — including several from My Darlin’ — to hit our readers’ in- and mail-boxes next month.

At any rate, you may recall Priyanka Batra’s exquisite work in my Shoppe Object recap several weeks back — but these exquisite photographs by Iara Snei really showcase these designs as they deserve.

Ever since getting acquainted with My Darlin’ several years back, I find it nearly impossible not to be buoyed by Priyanka’s vibrant color, cute cut-outs and clever messaging. This is the best kind of infectious!

Everything is designed out of Priyanka’s sunny Greenpoint studio in Brooklyn, New York. Letterpress items are printed in-house, and she partners with eco-friendly manufacturers for anything produced out-of-house.

Priyanka dates her “fashion literacy” to the age of five, in her mom’s closet full of Laura Ashley floral dresses and colorful 80s prints. We all have to start somewhere, no?

Following that, Priyanka studied journalism at the University of Iowa, graphic design at Parsons—Paris and New York, and typeface design at The Cooper Union. She spent about seven years designing websites before weekends spent letterpressing lured her back to paper, prints and vibrant colors.

Based on the evidence here, it’s no surprise that Priyanka’s favorite food is eggs, she doesn’t have a favorite color but rather, favorite color combinations, and is a proud recovering eBay addict. Below find a brief glimpse of the artist at work.
