<p>If you&#8217;re planning on getting Halloween cards and haven&#8217;t done so yet, now is certainly the time. And appropriately enough, paper-cutting artist extraordinaire Nancy Michalak is having a sale of 5 cards for $20.</p>
<p>Nancy&#8217;s <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/NancyMichalak?ref=l2-shopheader-name" target="_blank">designs</a> reproduce her orginal papercut collage made using the scherenschnitte technique, a nearly lost art form, which you guessed it, has its roots in 16th century Germany (as well as Switzerland). It translates into &#8220;scissor cuts,&#8221; and the process is as difficult as it looks, since each part of the cutting must connect to another to maintain the integrity of the silhouette. Otherwise the whole thing falls apart. Interestingly, her 6th grade students first prompted her interest in papercutting during a lesson in symmetry. Much of her lovely work is available as 8&#8243;x10&#8243; or larger prints, and there are some really lovely pendants on velvet chords there as well.</p>
