<p>So early last week I got a call from <a href="http://www.mohawkconnects.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mohawk</a> that there was some news coming out later in the week. I knew it was big since the prospect of my signing a non-disclosure agreement was mentioned. I wasn&#8217;t quite sure what it would be, but never in a million years did I think it was that Mohawk bought <a href="https://www.crane.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Crane</a>!<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21023" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Crane_Thank_You_1.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="397" /><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21022" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Crane_Notebooks_800x600.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="599" />This is great news for both industries on so many levels. Both Crane and Mohawk are two distinguished American brands with not only so much rich paper and stationery history between them, but a great deal of pride and craftsmanship going into what they do.</p>
<p>Chris Harrold, Mohawk&#8217;s VP Creative Director, told me informally last week that really the two are New England neighbors, with Crane in North Adams, Massachusetts, just on the other side of the mountains from Mohawk&#8217;s Cohoes, New York, location and only 40 miles away. The big difference, he continued, is that Mohawk doesn&#8217;t have the name recognition of Crane to consumers.<img class="aligncenter wp-image-21020" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Crane_Boxed_Stationery_3.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="598" /><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21018" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Crane_Boxed_Stationery_1.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="799" />This acquisition includes all three Crane brands: Crane &; Co., William Arthur and Vera Wang, and the combined companies will expand Mohawk’s product offering to include Crane’s extensive, iconic line of boxed stationery, wedding invitations, holiday cards and other personalized products, as well as Crane Crest, Crane Bond and Crane Lettra.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21024" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Studio_Collection_Wedding_Cityscape.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="443" /><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21025" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Studio_Collection_Wedding_Floral_Laser_Cut.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="403" />So while Mohawk will now add the Crane papers to its paper portfolio — specifically the toothy cotton Lettra, long a favorite choice for letterpressers — what is remarkable is how much will <em>not</em> change. Mohawk and Crane will maintain their respective existing brand names and continue to offer their unique portfolios and offerings, while at the same time expanding products, offerings and channels. All Crane employees with the exception of the three owners will join the Mohawk team.<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21021" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Crane_Greeting_Cards.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="862" />The biggest question I have at this point is, how will this effect Crane&#8217;s presence at <a href="http://www.nationalstationeryshow.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Stationery Show</a>? Crane has not exhibited in several years — though they hold a lovely breakfast event — but Mohawk does. Could this mean Crane&#8217;s iconic windows are returning to the show floor? I sure hope so! I haven&#8217;t gotten any answers yet, but if I do, you can be sure I&#8217;ll be sharing it here!<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-21019" src="https://thepaperchronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Crane_Boxed_Stationery_2.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="1029" />[amazon_link asins=&#8217;B005ZWCQHS,B00CM3K51M,B01BKQR3WA,B0089A63YA,B00N7JNEPO,B00T2JPZGE,B00N7JVCRG,B00CM3KMKG,B00352U1TU&#8217; template=&#8217;ProductCarousel&#8217; store=&#8217;us0479-20&#8242; marketplace=&#8217;US&#8217; link_id=&#8217;1f4e2316-3a71-11e8-9bee-737095740bfe&#8217;]</p><div class="inline-post clearfix"><div class="see-also byline">See also</div><div id="block-wrap-71867" class="block-wrap-native block-wrap block-wrap-23 block-css-71867 block-wrap-classic columns__m--1 elements-design-3 block-ani block-skin-0 tipi-box block-wrap-thumbnail ppl-m-1 clearfix" data-id="71867" data-base="0"><div class="tipi-row-inner-style clearfix"><div class="tipi-row-inner-box contents sticky--wrap"><div class="block block-23 clearfix"><article class="tipi-xs-12 clearfix with-fi ani-base tipi-xs-typo split-1 split-design-1 loop-0 preview-thumbnail preview-23 elements-design-3 post-9821 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-off-the-press tag-birthday-cards tag-blackbird-letterpress tag-correspondence tag-fawn-paper-co tag-greeting-cards tag-jewelry tag-letterpress tag-louie-awards tag-national-stationery-show tag-nss2015 tag-paper-bandit-press tag-prints tag-sarah-schwartz tag-snail-mail tag-stationery tag-thank-you-stationery tag-the-paper-chronicles" style="--animation-order:0"><div class="preview-mini-wrap clearfix"><div class="mask"><a href="https://thepapernerd.com/nss-mailers-part-3/" class="mask-img"><img width="100" height="100" src="https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=100%2C100&;ssl=1" class="attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail wp-post-image" alt="" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=150%2C150&;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=200%2C200&;ssl=1 200w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=293%2C293&;ssl=1 293w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=75%2C75&;ssl=1 75w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=390%2C390&;ssl=1 390w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=585%2C585&;ssl=1 585w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=24%2C24&;ssl=1 24w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=48%2C48&;ssl=1 48w, https://i0.wp.com/thepapernerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/elephantmailercard1-e1430914436981.jpg?resize=96%2C96&;ssl=1 96w" sizes="(max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px" /></a></div><div class="meta"><div class="byline byline-2 byline-cats-design-4"><div class="byline-part cats"><a href="https://thepapernerd.com/category/off-the-press/" style="color:#b79b0d" class="cat">Off The Press</a></div></div><div class="title-wrap"><h3 class="title"><a href="https://thepapernerd.com/nss-mailers-part-3/">NSS mailers, Part 3!</a></h3></div><div class="byline byline-3"><span class="byline-part date"><i class="tipi-i-calendar" aria-hidden="true"></i> <time class="entry-date published dateCreated flipboard-date" datetime="2015-05-06T12:54:56+00:00">May 6, 2015</time></span><span class="byline-part likes-count"><a href="#" class="tipi-like-count " data-pid="9821"><span class="likes-heart"><i class="tipi-i-heart-o" aria-hidden="true"></i><i class="tipi-i-heart" aria-hidden="true"></i></span><span class="tipi-value">0</span></a></span></div></div></div></article></div></div></div></div></div></tipimidc>
