I love stumbling across a new artist — especially one who has a renaissance woman thriving within. Suwachi hails from Kyoto, Japan, but now calls Vermont home. For the past two years she has been working on a state bird series of illustrations featuring vintage state maps, available at the Wooden Pencil Co.
A while back she reached out to me and offered to send my state, Ohio — and a few days later I was thrilled to receive a really sweet charming Cardinal Print, inspired by an 1895 map of the state. The paper is super-lush, 100% cotton premium archival matte fine art paper.
The map features the Columbus area, but you can inquire about having it customized to a certain city. Available in 8.5″x11″ ($22) and 11″x14″ ($30) sizes.
Suwachi — called Sachie for short — also kindly included our state fish gorgeously depicted on a Walleye Print, this one created using an 1856 map. Best of all, Cleveland is on one of its fins! 11″x14,” $30.
Suwachi also has a design firm, Goma Design Studio, that provides design & brand strategy.
And during her downtime she blogs about her cat Goma at My Himalayan Cat Goma. It’s been nominated for several awards, and Goma and Sachie have even been featured on Animal Planet’s Cats 101 series! Her blog is adorable, and if you’re looking to express some stately love — or looking for a gift for your favorite guy — her shop is definitely worth a gander!
